Area Police
Around fifty cars have been smeared with what appears to be human blood in the German municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, as reported by law enforcement.
Vehicles, walls and postal boxes were marked, occasionally with swastikas, they reported in a release.
Police say they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a individual discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a reddish liquid.
The fluid had been placed in the form of a banned symbol, they stated.
Police then located multiple other vandalized vehicles and building exteriors in the surrounding area.
Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under laws prohibiting the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.
Law enforcement report early analysis show the liquid was likely human blood.
"Currently there is no indication as to its origin; investigators are presently not informed of any physical harm in association with the event," they added.
City officials announced they were trying "to unravel the incident" and have requested to the community for information.
A high-ranking representative commented the incident left him without words and required to be addressed rapidly.
"This incident affects the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the far-right attack five years ago," he posted on online, mentioning the murder of nine individuals by a shooter focusing on individuals of immigrant origin in 2020.
