Iranian forces say they have struck a US naval base in Bahrain, as Iran launched operations throughout the Middle East in response for a significant and continuing assault targeting the nation by the United States and Israeli forces.

Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an zone near the headquarters of the American Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The extent of any impact is uncertain and the American officials has remained silent.

Airspace Engagements

Elsewhere across the region, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar and Kuwait - all home to US military bases - stated they have shot down missiles in their air space.

In Doha, the Qatari Ministry of Defence announced it had intercepted several missiles seemingly aimed at the al-Udeid air base, the largest American base in the Middle East.

Iran's Declared Retaliation

The Iranian Revolutionary Guard stated it was striking US bases and assets as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in reprisal for the attack on Iran carried out by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday morning.

That initial attack - executed at approximately 09:15 Iran time - has so far targeted areas associated with the Iranian leadership, with US President Donald Trump urging the people of Iran to revolt against the leadership.

Regional Fallout

In the State of Israel, air raid sirens sounded nationwide after the Israeli military reported it had detected an barrage of missiles from Iran.

The Ministry of Defence of the UAE said in a statement that the country has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".

"Emirati air defenses dealt with the projectiles with great effectiveness and destroyed a several projectiles," the statement continued.

The statement noted wreckage landed in a neighborhood in Abu Dhabi, resulting in some property damage and the death of one civilian.

The US Air Force is stationed at the Al Dhafra base, south of Abu Dhabi, along with the UAE Air Force.
