The Gunners' boss has expressed confidence that his side can keep managing with player absences after revealing that star striker Kai Havertz is not ready for a few more weeks.

Extended Absence for Havertz

The Germany international has been absent for months following knee surgery. Hoped to come back at the start of this month, the manager stated the player faced a hurdle when stepping up his training and was unable to move forward “to the next level.”

“Our experience helped us build a group that is considerably steadier and has increased versatility,” stated the manager.

Selection Dilemma for Midweek Fixture

This news creates a tactical puzzle for Wednesday’s fixture at the Emirates against Brentford. A decision is required between continuing to use Mikel Merino, who found the net as a makeshift striker on Sunday, or recalling Viktor Gyökeres, who featured briefly off the bench in the latter stages. Long-term absentee Gabriel Jesus remains available post-recovery.

Fitness Doubts Remain

Additional concerns affect defender William Saliba and winger Leandro Trossard, who both missed the Stamford Bridge game. Consequently, new recruits Cristhian Mosquera and Piero Hincapié are expected to continue in the backline for the Premier League front-runners.

The manager is convinced the substantial investment on reinforcements during the summer has placed the club in a more robust situation to navigate such unavailability.

Squad Depth Vital for Premier League Pursuit

Questioned if increased squad depth was benefiting their league challenge, Arteta was emphatic. “Absolutely, as this campaign has seen more issues in the attacking line, and now the situation with the defence,” he added.

“We learned from the past that we must deploy players in alternative spots, and they have to be able to perform various functions if we aim to challenge at the highest level. And the case of Mikel is probably the prime illustration.”

Arteta's Support for Frustrated Havertz

Commenting on the complication highlighted by Germany manager Julian Nagelsmann, Arteta provided further detail. “He was doing everything. He failed to advance to the subsequent stage and now it appears like we have solved that issue.”

He shared his personal desire to see him return. “Everyone is eager to have him. Honestly, it’s a player that, personally, I value highly for the qualities he offers to the team, but his personality, his personality. I watch him struggle on the sidelines.”
