19 of the Russian's twenty-one titles have been won on hardcourt

A resurgent Daniil Medvedev secured his initial championship for over two years with victory over Corentin Moutet in the competition title decider.

The Russian, a ex- top-ranked player, has endured a difficult period, achieving just a single victory at the Grand Slams and suffering a meltdown at the New York tournament.

His unpredictability on the ATP Tour - and difficulties with his serve in specific - caused him dropping out of the elite rankings and ultimately parting ways with long-term coach his previous coach.

Currently training with his coach and his other coach, he has steadily advanced in the past month - peaking in a hard-fought three-set triumph over challenger Moutet.

It is the player's maiden trophy after the 2023 Rome Masters and maiden on a hard surface since spring of the previous year.

Victory also indicates Medvedev has secured 21 titles at twenty-one different events.

"It's the first time I am participating in a tournament with my children simultaneously, so to win a title is especially meaningful," said world number 14 Medvedev.

"This championship is in honour of my second daughter my daughter, because the first title I achieved when my child her name was born was for her."

Medvedev, the past champion, had been defeated in his past six title deciders, including in the German tournament previously this season.

The player's defensive strategy and regular emotional displays on court had prompted some to wonder if his capacity to compete at the highest level was over.

Yet the player has made changes in the last few weeks, attempting to advance forward and play assertively, reinforced by an improved serve.

Medvedev recovered from a disadvantage in the initial set against the tricky opponent, taking 4 of the last five points to take the lead.

The competitors traded service breaks in the middle set before the challenger, bidding for his initial professional championship, took control to force a decider.

Moutet rescued four initial break points in a competitive final set before the Russian won the break to that score to close out the victory.

Suitably, he earned victory with a rally at the net, with Moutet unable to handle a return after two hours and 38 minutes.
